How This Royalty Calculator Works
Understanding publishing economics is critical for creators. This tool models traditional book royalties (hardcover/paperback/ebook tiers), self-publishing platforms (Amazon KDP), and streaming music payouts. All figures are based on industry averages and can be customized.
- Traditional royalties: Hardcover ~10-15%, Paperback ~6-10%, Ebook ~25% of net.
- Self-publishing: Kindle 70% royalty (minus delivery fee), print cost deducted.
- Streaming: Spotify ~$0.003-$0.005 per stream, Apple Music ~$0.007-$0.01.
- Advances: Deducted from future royalties until "earned out".
