Why This Plant Watering Calculator Is Different

Most watering apps give generic advice. Our houseplant watering schedule tool considers pot diameter, soil drainage, light intensity, and humidity — key variables that AI often misjudges. Whether you're nursing a succulent watering guide or a thirsty fern, you get a science-backed plan that prevents root rot and underwatering.

This tool is ideal for indoor gardeners searching "how often to water plants" or "indoor plant care schedule". It's a soil moisture planner that replaces guesswork with horticultural logic.

  • Plant-specific algorithms: Succulents vs. tropicals have very different needs.
  • Pot size factor: Large pots (20+ cm) hold water longer — we adjust automatically.
  • Environment calibrated: High light + low humidity = more frequent watering.

All calculations run locally. No plant data leaves your browser.

How the Watering Interval Is Calculated

  • Base interval (days): Succulent: 12-14, Tropical: 6-8, Fern: 4-5, Herb: 5-7, Orchid: 7-10.
  • Pot size modifier: +1 day per 5cm above 10cm diameter; -1 day below 10cm.
  • Soil factor: Fast-draining subtracts 1-2 days; moisture-retaining adds 2 days.
  • Light & humidity: High light subtracts 1 day; low light adds 1 day. Dry air subtracts 1 day; humid adds 1.

Water amount is estimated based on pot volume (approx. 60ml per cm of diameter). Always water thoroughly until it drains.

Plant Watering FAQs

How do I know if I'm overwatering?

Yellow leaves, mushy stems, or fungus gnats are common signs. Use our schedule and always check top 2 inches of soil: if dry, water; if moist, wait.

Does this schedule change with seasons?

Yes. In winter, plants grow slower and use less water. We recommend adding 2–3 days to the calculated interval when heating is on.

Can I use tap water?

Most plants tolerate tap water, but sensitive ones (Calathea, carnivorous) prefer distilled or rainwater. Let tap water sit overnight to dissipate chlorine.

Why is this better than a plant care app?

Many apps rely on generic databases or AI that doesn't account for your exact pot size or soil. This tool gives you a personalized, transparent formula.
