About International Dialing Codes
This tool uses the official ITU-T E.164 standard, which assigns unique country calling codes to every nation. It also includes exit codes (IDD prefixes) that you dial to make an international call from that country. For example, from the US you dial 011 + country code + number; from most of Europe you dial 00 + country code + number.
- Country codes are assigned by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
- Exit codes vary by country — some use 00, others 011, 0011, etc.
- On mobile phones, the "+" symbol automatically replaces the correct exit code.
International Dialing FAQ
Dial: [Exit Code] + [Country Code] + [Area Code] + [Local Number]. For example, from the US to UK: 011 + 44 + 20 + 1234 5678.
The "+" is a universal symbol that tells your phone to automatically insert the correct exit code for your current location. It's the easiest way to dial internationally on mobile phones.
The North American Numbering Plan (NANP) shares +1 among the US, Canada, and many Caribbean nations. Similarly, Russia and Kazakhstan share +7.
Yes. Use the "Code → Country" tab and enter the digits (without the +). For example, "44" returns United Kingdom.
Data is sourced from the official ITU-T E.164 recommendation and national numbering plan databases, updated regularly.
Rarely. When countries split or merge, new codes may be assigned. We monitor ITU announcements to keep the database current.
